Silent Tears
Darkness surrounds you
the cold damp air sends a chill up your spine
the stench of blood ...
burning your nose
Blindly you try to find your way around
slowly ambling towards a light in the corner
when off in the distance you hear a small feeble sound...
Like a lil' child not wanting to be found...
As you get closer
the image is clearer
a child not more than five
crouching in the corner
trying so hard to hide
Her hair is in knots
bruises covering her face
thin rags upon her frail body
nothing but a torn blanket keeping her warm
Cautiously you come closer
whispering softly that its ok
that you will not hurt her
yet she still cowers away
Who could be so cruel
to the innocence of a child
to beat them and scold them
leaving them as this child has been
After a bit of time
the child raises her sullen face to yours
her swollen eyes begging you to help her
silent tears she cries...
You take her in your arms
wrap her in your warmth
you vow to her that she is now safe
and she will never hurt anymore.
If only that was true,
if you could take away the pain
Giving her a life that she has never seen
replacing it with happiness and love
sadly though the scars will forever remain

Introduction
|
Our newspaper headlines and television news are filled with stories of
children being abducted, brutalized, raped, and murdered. Heaven's
Angels feels strongly about these crimes against children and we have
dedicated ourselves to this cause. This quilt is in memory of all the
children who have been victims. Each quilt square represents each of
the 50 states and some foreign countries, and is linked to sexual abuse
laws for those states and countries.
The purpose of the quilt is so you can check out the laws in your state
or country to see if new legislation is needed to increase the penalties
for these crimes or if new laws are needed to replace inadequate ones
already on the books.
If we are to protect our children, our greatest natural resources for
the future, we must be active in making sure that the laws are stiff
enough to make a deterent to those who would think of committing these
crimes and to punish those who will and do commit these crimes against
children.
